The Little Lion who inspired us...
Meet Anthony Samuel Leon Kastoun AKA ‘’Little Lion’’’, born on 15 January 2016, 14 weeks earlier than his expected due date, Little Lion weighed just over 900g.
This day would see him battle for the
next 77 days, surviving against all the odds to thrive into the gorgeous little boy he is today.
Anthony is just one in ten premature births. Many spending their first few months of life in a 4 x4 incubator attached to more wires than one will ever see in their life.
So it is our pledge in opening Little Lion café to ‘give’ to the tiniest fighters our world has. Please help us help these tiny miracles to have a better chance of surviving by donating today.
- The Little Lion Cafe
Mum, Victoria Kastoun, watching over Anthony aka 'Little Lion' - born 14 weeks premature and at just 900g, in the NICU Ward at Westmead Hospital.
"Born before your time, a little gift from above, a lion with a big heart and a strength that roared so loud,
That the Angels heard your roar and smiled at you from above. For they gifted you the most incredible gift - the will to persevere through all.
Our tears they fell like rain, but you a rock that would not shatter; You were strong and resilient. You fought and persevered.
It is thanks to those who watched over you, that nourished you and fed you love, that you grew to be so big and strong.
The little lion who is brave and bold and rose above the odds.
You were Tiny But Mighty, and it shows from small things, big things do grow.
Our Little Lion
We promise you this: with every soul to be fed and in every cup that we pour
It is our love we will use to match the boldness of your roar."
The story behind
The Little Lion
There are a few ways you can help us to continue to support the NICU:
1. The Little Lion Cafe: Make your coffee mean something more... choose to donate your loose change in our donations box at the cafe.
2. Add To Our Garden: From small things big things grow... Life starts as a seedling and with nurturing and love it grows. That's why we offer an over the counter purchase of our 'preemie' plant seedlings which you can plant in our Lions' Den, sprinkle with water and watch it thrive.
3. On Social Media: Help us raise awareness by visiting the Lion's Den at our cafe and taking a moment to appreciate and grab a snap in-front of the Little Lion Mural - proudly donated by artist Ronald Chio. Use our angel to show your support for the Tiny But Mighty and use the caption "Watching over the Tiny But Mighty" and hash-tags #tinybutmighty and #thelittlelioncafe
4. Donate online: TinyButMighty
We alongside MyWestmead appreciate your generosity and hope we can help make a difference in the quality of life for these miracle babies and their families.

FUNDRAISING FOR THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU)
Essentially, our cafe aims to support and raise awareness for Westmead Medical Research Foundation CFN: 161 80, raising funds for Tiny But Mighty Fund for Westmead Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). All proceeds raised for the Tiny But Mighty go directly to the NICU staff for allocation within the ward (as opposed to a Hospital board and re-directed elsewhere). So when we are raising funds for the NICU, we know our money is going towards helping the tiniest, beautiful baby boys and girls fight to survive. Funds generally go towards health care, on-going research and life-saving equipment alike new incubators, humidity cribs etc. all of which cost thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain. What's more, is the ward does rely heavily on donations in order to sustain the needs of these little fighters.
Little Lion Cafe is a fully registered (Registration Number: MWFA069), volunteer authority to seek prizes, support, sponsorship and donations on behalf of The Westmead Medical Research Foundation (WMRF)
